Aberdeen LAC meet the Aberdeen Skills Development Scotland Team

Claire Rankine, Careers Advisor, Skills Development Scotland, invited Jane and Gareth from Aberdeen Local Area Co-ordination to the Aberdeen SDS Team Meeting on Wednesday 16th November.

The main purpose of the meeting was for Jane and Gareth to give an update about Aberdeen LAC and recent changes to the service, as well as discuss ways that we can work more closely together.

Jane and Gareth were eager to meet with the SDS Team as it provided a great opportunity to find out more about what they do and to make new connections in the community.

SDS work across Scotland in schools, careers centres, and with employers, to help young people achieve their full potential.

SDS primarily work alongside young people and employers to help create new work opportunities by funding Modern Apprentices, with a focus on providing them with the tools they need to create a fair and equal workplace.

The main focus of SDS is to provide careers information, advice and guidance, as well as work based training programmes. In order to ensure that career information is accessible to young people there are Career Advisor’s attached to each of the Secondary Schools across the city.

As part of SDS’s role is to work alongside young people who have a Learning Disability there is a clear crossover with the work that LAC carry out. With this in mind it is essential that SDS and LAC are aware and of each other’s services and work together going forward to ensure that the people they are working with receive the support they need.

The meeting was very positive and both LAC and SDS had the opportunity to ask questions and to find out how to refer to each other’s service in order to work together going forward.
